Our lawful bases for the collection and use of your data:
Our lawful bases for collecting or using personal information to provide services and goods, including delivery and third party referrals are:
-
Consent - we have permission from you after we gave you all the relevant information. All of your data protection rights may apply, except the right to object. To be clear, you do have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.
-
Contract – we have to collect or use the information so we can enter into or carry out a contract with you. All of your data protection rights may apply except the right to object.
-
Legal obligation – we have to collect or use your information so we can comply with the law. All of your data protection rights may apply, except the right to erasure, the right to object and the right to data portability.
-
Legitimate interests – we’re collecting or using your information because it benefits you, our organisation or someone else, without causing an undue risk of harm to anyone. All of your data protection rights may apply, except the right to portability.

Our legitimate interests are:
At Queer By Gum CIC, we collect only names and email addresses to communicate effectively with individuals who engage with our services. Our legitimate interest in collecting this limited personal information is to provide updates about events, workshops, community opportunities, and important organisational news that supports and connects LGBTQ+ communities in the North of England. This minimal data collection enables us to keep people informed, build a sense of ongoing community, and ensure individuals have access to the services they’ve requested or expressed interest in. It also allows us to respond to enquiries and maintain a respectful and consistent line of communication. We carefully consider the potential impact on individuals and limit data collection to what is strictly necessary. We do not share personal information without consent, and we do not use it for marketing unrelated to our services. The benefit of maintaining this contact—fostering community, inclusion, and access to support—significantly outweighs any low risk of harm, which we work to minimise through secure data handling and clear opt-out options. We are committed to respecting individuals’ privacy and never placing our needs above their rights or expectations.
Our lawful bases for collecting or using personal information to receive donations or funding and organise fundraising activities are:

-
Consent - we have permission from you after we gave you all the relevant information. All of your data protection rights may apply, except the right to object. To be clear, you do have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.

Our legitimate interests are:
At Queer By Gum CIC, we collect names and email addresses from individuals who donate, express interest in supporting us, or engage with our fundraising activities. Our legitimate interest in collecting this information is to acknowledge donations, maintain transparency, and keep supporters informed about how their contributions are making a difference in the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals and communities in the North of England. This limited use of personal information allows us to send thank-you messages, provide updates on our impact, and share future fundraising opportunities with those who have shown interest. It also helps us build and sustain relationships with donors and community supporters, which is essential for the sustainability of our grassroots work. We collect only the minimal information necessary, and we are transparent about how it is used. We never share donor information without explicit consent and always offer clear ways to opt out of communications. The benefit—maintaining trust, ensuring accountability, and enabling long-term support for our community-centred initiatives—far outweighs the low risk posed by collecting basic contact information. We handle all data with care and integrity, and we never place our fundraising needs above an individual\'s right to privacy, choice, and respect.

We only contact individuals who have signed up or shown interest in hearing from us, and we keep messages relevant and respectful. We provide easy options to unsubscribe or update preferences at any time. We understand the importance of privacy and are mindful not to over-communicate or use personal data in ways that would be unexpected or intrusive.
